Passenger seat air bag sensor is defective. They want over $1,000 to fix it. Looking online there are many customer complaints regarding this issue and some recalls but says my vin number is not one in the recall. Was coming on and off...now off all the time! I have paid to fix leak from sunroof that is also a common issue....recall did fix faulty fuel leak. Help please!

The passenger seat air bag sensor failed and to repair the problem the entire seat cushion and electronic module has to be replaced. This is an over $800 repair and my daughter cant afford to have it fixed. According to the dealer tech this is a common problem on several thousand equinox, torrent and saturn ion vehicles. Imho this is a safety defect and should be repaired at no charge.
